Tortoli, Italy

Tortoli, Italy

Tortoli Italy

Tortoli, is a small Sardinian town of little more than 10,000 inhabitants, capital of the province of Ogliastra next to Lanusei. Ogliastra located in the center of Sardinia, between the provinces of Nuoro and Cagliari and bathed by the Tyrrhenian Sea, is with its 23 municipalities and 50 thousand inhabitants, the least populated in Italy. Tortolì has become the most important center of the Ogliastra territory in recent years. The growth of the city, based decades ago on an agricultural economy, has undoubtedly contributed to the port of Arbatax and the new airport, created at the initiative of local entrepreneurs. In this way, Tortoli is currently an important tourist center within the reach of many Europeans. The origin of the name of Tortoli has not been fully clarified, but toponymy experts believe that it derives from an ancient port that the Pisans renominalized in Tortohelie.
